Kermit Ruffins’ Speakeasy. Such a good place, which appeared to be mixed with locals and out-of-towners all keen to hear the best of N’awlins jazz in a low key venue.
Kermit invited a load of other singers to perform too; Nayo Jones, “The Sleeping Giant” James Winfield, Kermit’s daughters and others. I forget the name of the guy who blew the roof off with a cover of Otis Redding’s “Try A Little Tenderness”. Everyone was incredible. And Kermit’s band, the Barbeque Swingers held it all together brilliantly.
If you’re in New Orleans on a Sunday or Monday, you have to go to this bar on Basin st. The food looked amazing too.
To top it all off, Robert DeNiro and LL Cool J walked in unannounced!
